Bio

Carlos Eric Lopez is a Mexican-American commercial, fine art, and portrait photographer best known for his talent of infusing a playful element of grounded glamour in his work.

A military brat with no place to call home, Lopez moved to Los Angeles searching for a semblance of family after a series of personal tragedies left him without ties to anything with meaning.

He instantly rose in recognition to become a paradoxical best friend to all among Tinseltown; a certain flair he’s leveraged to evoke caught and candid moments expressed throughout his photography.  He parlayed his personality into the hearts (and booths) of Hollywood’s elite, obsessively documenting celebrity’s final private moments before the rise of the now-ubiquitous camera phone.

Lopez was an architect of the pivotal “It Girl” era of the early 2000’s, which introduced the reality star to pop culture and gave rise to the collective abstraction of “being famous for being famous” – heirs, socialites, Hollywood’s finest offspring – anyone upending established pathways to the spotlight.  If it happened in LA, Lopez’ fingerprints were on it (…and can still be found on the fire alarm at Chateau Marmont).

Lopez became fascinated documenting this unexpected reversal of fame’s dialogue with his lens: “Normally, actors and musicians show off their talent to the world. Instead, these girls were finding out who they were from the world - and just trying to grow up in the process“ he says. “At no other time in our history do you have rich girls acting like peasants and being lauded for it.”  It’s this very notion imbued within his images. In the eye of the Hollywood storm, with the eye of a poor Mexican boy, he had somehow finally found his family.

Today, Carlos Eric Lopez Studios is one of Los Angeles’ most-requested photographers, having completed projects for Netflix, Architectural Digest, Fendi, Cadillac, Chrome Hearts, Jimmy Choo, Live Nation, NatGeo, Ralph Lauren, Rodarte, Honest Beauty, Brooklinen, Loro Piana, MyTheresa.com and many more. Lopez has also created a signature series of in-demand portrait studios for private events and awards shows.  Lopez resides in Los Angeles with his dog, Migo.
